University of Texas China Care

About Us

We are an independent, student run club at The University of Texas at Austin, and a recognized China Care Club under the China Care Foundation, Inc. To learn more about China Care Foundation visit: http://www.chinacare.org/

Every year, thousands of children in China are placed up for adoption due to physical and internal medical disabilities. With the enforcement of the China's one child policy, families do not feel they can afford to pay for years of medical treatment for a disabled child. These disabilities can range from a cleft lip palate to life threatening heart conditions. With the right medical treatment, a great majority of these children are able to live completely normal lives.

The University of Texas China Care student-run organization brings together a team of dedicated students determined to make a positive contribution to the lives of China's special-needs orphans as well as to the local Austin community. Throughout the year, our organization is continuously fundraising as well as raising awareness on campus about our cause. Members of  our organization meet every other Tuesday to discuss current and futures fundraising events, community outreach opportunities and ways to share our passion with the rest of the student body. At the end of each academic year our money raised is sent to China to fund surgeries for life-threatening physical ailments, better facilities, and individualized care for the afflicted children.

We at Texas China Care are also dedicated to working closely with the local Austin community, specifically Families with Children from China (FCC). Our purpose is to provide a support network between the local families as well as to provide families with the means to inspire the children to explore their cultural identity. We achieve this by holding bi-weekly meetings called playgroups.

Whether you're a student interested in our organization or a parent wanting to learn more about FCC and our playgroups, we would love to hear from you! Please e-mail us at texaschinacare@gmail.com with any questions, comments or concerns.
